We would hate you to think we sit around all day playing space invaders online and arranging our felt-tips in colour order, so here are some other things we’ve been up to….

Well done to all those involved, especially loved ones (Nai & Kat) who have supported us through the bad times, but have shared our enthusiasm (and geekiness) throughout the competition. The plants wouldn’t have been watered without you! Thanks xxx

It’s the final week of Tomato Tuesday and the competition has been fierce, the last few weeks have seen some massive tomato growth both in London and Poole. The jury are currently counting and the results will be published tomorrow, so check back then to find out the final points and who wins.

Although we still haven’t got any ripe tommies our late developing plants have increased by 60 tomatoes in just two weeks, so I think Stew may have been wise not to extend the deadline.

Yellow “Yorker”

Tomatoes: 35 (+23)

Alicante “Assassin”
Measures: 151.6cm (-10.7cm)

“The Perilous” Plum
Measures: 174.0cm (+24.3cm)
Tomatoes: 53 (+48)

Um, speechless…

I’m amazed the plants have done so well, especially considering they looked as if they were on their last legs a week ago, what with the blistering heat in Poole. We’d trimmed both plants back and moved them so they could be supported properly… the reward? They’ve stopped growing and have put all their energy into the tommies.

I’d like to close the competition today - coz I’m worried about Alan’s plants doing as well as ours!!!

Italian “Stallion” Plum
Measures: 98cm (0cm)
Tomatoes: 47 (+32)

Gardener’s “Angel” Delight
Measures: 104.3cm (+0.3cm)

Glad to say we have a few more tommies and the plants are still strong, although the plants all seem to have shrunk again this week. Not sure if that is my measuring skills or the wait of all those tomatoes. The tomato figures are the same as last week, as my official tomato counter has been away for a week - the figures will be posted as soon as possible.

I know, I know i’ve been really slack updating you on how the London tomatoes are doing, but I want to make sure the suspense keeps you on the edge of your seat. So today on this Tomato Thursday I would like to announce this weeks stats are very impressive, well I think they are anyway.

As you will see it seems that our plants are shrinking, well they are in away as we are pruning them to help the tomato growth, although it pains me to cut them apparently according to Stew it helps… although he may be lying so we cut them.

Sorry my submission is a little late - was counting my tomatoes and kept forgetting which one’s I’d counted!

Well it finally happened, we have pruned our plants so they can channel all their powers into our juicy tommies. Got tips from various places, notably a book I got for my birthday… and my Dad, who popped in (while on holiday in the area) and started to rip branches off our plants… hopefully they’ll be OK!

Wednesday 10th September will see London ring out to the sound of the bicycle bell on the first annual Ding Day – A celebration for the cycling community in London.

On this day London will become a joyful and happier city for cyclists, streets will ring to the sound of the bicycle bell. With every cyclist welcome and openly encouraged to participate, all that’s needed is a bike and a bell. There is no main event on the day, it runs all day whenever you are in the saddle on Ding Day.

The concept is simple:
On Wednesday 10th September whenever you see another cyclist you give a little ‘ding ding’ on your bell, and they will return your greeting with another ‘ding ding’.

The idea behind Ding Day:
To create a fun experience for cyclists and locals in and around London, with the hope of creating more of a sense of community amongst fellow cyclists, including commuters, parents, children, basically any cyclist young or old. It’s free and open to everyone.

It is a celebration of cycling as one of the most environmentally friendly, healthy and almost certainly quickest way of getting aroud our great city.
